In the late 50’s and early 60’s a collection of Rileys was built up by Commander Morris and the Havilands which at one stage numbered 50 Rileys and 30 tons of spares. After many moves the collection ended up near Leighton Buzzard but owing to domestic issues the collection had to be disposed of with many of the spares being donated to The Riley Register.
Matthew Wilmore, the present Managing Director, managed to acquire the land and ‘Big Shed’ formerly occupied by the collection and start up a small business restoring , buying and selling pre-war Rileys with help from his neighbour, Geoff Haviland who was involved in the former collection from the early 60’s.
Ashridge Automobiles was formed in 1995 as a limited company by Matthew and Geoff along with a group of committed and enthusiastic Investors so that they could drive, enjoy and benefit from their investment.
Since then the Company has evolved to cover as much restoration, as well as buying and selling, as possible and in order to keep costs to customers down much is done in house.
We are very pleased that most of the clients who buy automobiles from Ashridge become good friends and offer repeat business. Some even offer to work in their retirement free of charge with us! So do feel free by arrangement to drop in for a coffee and friendly chat; advice is given freely.
