1934 Riley 14/6 Special
Reg number: 248 XUH
Chassis number: 602235
Engine number: L1096
A simply beautiful Riley special, built as an Ulster Imp ‘replica’, by the late Mike Jones in South Africa. This car was the subject of an article in the Automobile magazine in 2002 (preview attached).
This lovely recreation was subsequently changed to a twin carb six cylinder 14/6 engine mated to a manual gearbox as featured in the Riley Register magazine.
The six cylinder engine was rebuilt in 2012 with Omega pistons, shell bearings etc, and has seen little use since. A new crown wheel and pinion of 4.5:1 for better touring capabilities was installed together with new tyres and tonneau.
As can be seen in the photos the car comes with full period instrumentation and lighting
A superb car with lots of space for luggage owing to it’s detachable rear bodywork and eminently suitable for long distance touring events such as the 1000 Mile Trial and Flying Scotsman or, if one prefers, hill climbs and sprints.
