1970 Fiat 124 Spyder (BS)

Registration: LWT 313H

Chassis Number: BS 0029547

An attractive example of the Fiat 124 that was imported from the US and fully restored in 2021. Now presenting very well in Periwinkle Blue with cream interior and benefitting from a later 1756cc engine, this 124 is an ideal choice for some happy Summer motoring!

Fiat’s hugely successful 124 was introduced in 1966 initially as a Sedan before the Station Wagon, Coupe and Sport Spider swiftly followed. The Sport Spider in particular had a shortened wheelbase and elegant Pininfarina styling which lead to a successful production run of around 200,000 cars through to 1982, with around 150,000 of these being sold to the US. Notably, the Sport Spider was never sold to the UK or in RHD form.

This particular car is an original US car with the history file showing it was imported to the UK in 2019. Invoicing then confirms that an extensive restoration was carried out on the car with significant expenditure between 2019-2021 with major work including, but not limited to:

  • Respray in Periwinkle Blue
  • Full cream interior retrim including upholstery, carpets, soft top and new wooden dashboard
  • Stainless exhaust system
  • SuperPro complete poly suspension bush kit
  • New shock absorbers all round
  • New brake discs and pads with braided brake hoses
  • Clutch kit and NOS alternator

Invoicing at the time confirms that a later, larger, 1756cc engine was already fitted by this point in place of the original 1438cc engine. The car has benefitted from further £3300 of expenditure this year with marque specialist Middle Barton Garage including engine service work, new brake pads, battery and 4 new tyres.

Much like an MGB or Triumph Spitfire, the 124 is an excellent all round sports car from the era and this example is a joy to drive with the comfortable, retrimmed interior and respectable performance from the larger engine and 5 speed gearbox. The 124 also benefits from a large boot and soft top that is quick to put up.

A rarer car to find in the UK and in such a vibrant colour scheme, this will be sure to attract attention at shows whilst also being a practical choice for longer distance trips and touring!
