Riley Lynx Sprite
Date of Reg: 13/7/1937
Reg No: FPH 299
C/No: SS27L7024
A distinctive pre war British sports car combining the practicality of a 4 seat touring body with the performance of the 12/4 1500 cc Sprite engine.
Produced from 1933 to 1938 this original Lynx Sprite features twin SU carburettors, preselecta gearbox and various other improvements as listed below.
A potent and sought after sports tourer for the aficionado who needs 4 seats.
Owing to the rarity of the Sprite model, a few standard Lynxes have been upgraded to twin carb spec but a genuine Sprite is identified by the SS prefix to the chassis number; it is believed only 175 odd high performance models were built.
This particular car resides at present in Southern Ireland with associated paperwork and registration number. It can readily be re registered with the original number plate as and when and if it returns to the UK.
The current owner who bought the car from Ashridge some 14 years ago has kept the car on the road and has carried out various works as listed below.
It has been fitted with a 4.89:1 rear diff for improved cruising speeds and a spin off oil filter for better oil flow.
Works carried out:
- Exhaust system from Blue Diamond
- New Water pump from Blue Diamond
- 4.89 CW & P and all new bearings
- Electronic Regulator
- LED panels in rear lights
- Front are old type bulbs
- Oil filter conversion, original finned filter will be included
- New inlet manifold
Similarly, the Scintilla magneto that came with the car will be included.
Petrol tank recently internally coated to protect from the ravages of E10.
A nice, driveable example with full weather equipment ready for the open road this Spring!
